"From China With Love"

We are the very lucky parents of three beautiful daughters from China. To the right is our daughter, Bailee Marie Egan. She was eight and a half years old when this photo was taken. The time has flown by since she came home and it seems like she has been a part of our family forever! We started the adoption process in April 1996 and our dossier went to Beijing in September 1996. Since this was during the reorganization of the adoption process in China, it took over a year to receive our referral. We finally received our referral on September 30, 1997, Bailee was placed in our arms on October 29, 1997 and her adoption was final on October 30, 1997.

Bailee was born in December 1996 and lived in the orphanage in Yangchun, China. Her Chinese name is Yang Feng, meaning Sun Maple. The referral photo we received is at left. We believe this photo was taken at the same time she had her medical exam on June 24, 1997, so she was almost seven months old.

Yangchun is in Guangdong Province and is approximately four hours southwest of Guangzhou by car. We did not get to visit the inside the orphanage in 1997, but were allowed to tour the brand new orphanage building in 1998. We feel so fortunate that our daughter spent her early months at such a good orphanage. The level of care given to the children is excellent, and the director, Yu Hong Ying, and all the workers deeply love the children.

We had so much fun being parents, we decided to add to our family and our second dossier was submitted toBeijing in February 1999 by a great agency, Harrah Family Services. Our referral came much faster this time....we got the good news of our second child on August 30, 1999 (referral photo on the right). And we were on the plane October 4, 1999 to meet our newest daughter, Samantha Mei MoShan Egan!

Sammie was born in May 1997 is also from Yangchun and her Chinese name is Yang Mei Si. Once again, we had a great trip and were able to spend time at the Yangchun orphanage and with Mrs. Yu. Sammie was eight years old in the photo on the left.

It was a bit challenging adding an older toddler to our family, but after a rough few months, things began to settle down and it wasn't long before we felt that we had always been a family of four.

It only took a couple of years before we were feeling the pull of adoption again. So, in the spring of 2001, we signed on again with Harrah Family Services and began to assemble all the necessary paperwork for our dossier. We completed everything in record time and our dossier arrived in Beijing on August 2, 2001. And we began the longest wait yet for news of our daughter.

Our good news came from John Harrah on October 2, 2002 - we had another daughter! Plus, we had been blessed with another daughter from Guangdong Province. Her name was He Yu Cheng, meaning precious jade, she was born in March 2002 and she was living at the Sanshui Welfare Institute. We believe she was two to three months old in the referral photo is on the left. She was three years old in the photo on the right.

Callee has been a delightful baby since she was placed in our arms in late October 2002. She is the perfect fit for our family! We were fortunate to visit the orphanage during our time in China and also see the spot where Callee was found. We've added a few photos from our trip to our site.

We always had the thought of one more sister in the back of our minds. However, Callee has proven to be a very active child (while this is great fun, it is also exhausting for her parents!), so any ideas of adopting again seemed very remote.

But, it gives me great plesure to announce that the Egan family is going to grow by one little girl again! We have accepted the referral of a nearly 3 year old waiting child from Jiangxi Province. The waiting child program in China is a wonderful way for older children and those with medical needs to find their forever families. Our new daughter's name is Xiao Zhi Wei, and her file had been sent to All God's Children International in Portland, Oregon. We are traveling in late October to bring her home. Please visit Xiao Zhi Wei's page to see more photos and learn about her.

We hope you enjoy our web site. There are links to some neat China adoption sites, lots of information about Yangchun, and a ton of photos of our Yangchun and Sanshui treasures. We love to talk about adoption from China, so please feel free to email us if we can answer any questions.
